Recording "God Spots" for UCB
"Recording "God Spots" for United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) is becoming a bigger project than I ever imagined", declared Lisburn Grace Communion pastoral worker John Magowan.
John first contacted UCB, an international Christian broadcasting and media group, 3 years ago at their Stoke-on-Trent headquarters and, at the behest of broadcasting manager Gary Hoogvlief, produced several sample "God Spots". These are 60 second inspirational readings or devotionals placed in between scheduled radio programmes.
UCB were happy with the initial batch of recordings which were taped by Juls Martin, Belfast Presenter for UCB UK, and in 2012 the Spots went on air nationally.
John now also records Spots for UCB Ireland and occasionally travels to their Dublin studios to record a batch of "one minuters" assisted by Programme Coordinator Vincent Hughes. A typical day might involve leaving home in Groomsport at 9 a.m. and not returning until 11pm after an exhausting but rewarding day. "Thank you for your prayers", John exclaims, "What a difference that makes!"
Before the UCB venture John had no radio experience, but had been a regular speaker at Church and was often told he had a good "radio voice". Currently there is great demand for short inspirational material. John's fellow church members also assist by providing scripts which John tweaks to make more radio friendly. The God Spots are also broadcast across New Zealand from Auckland by Christian Radio Station, Rhema.
